Worried about shed warranty?

A new shed is a big investment so you’ll want to understand your warranty. We explore what’s covered as well as automatic consumer guarantees.

It’s not every day you make a major purchase such as investing in the right shed for your farm or business.

So when the time is right to buy a brand new shed, there’s no doubt that you’ll want to make sure that your purchase is a wise one - as well as having the peace of mind that it’s covered by the relevant authorities and warranties which are in place to protect you as the consumer.

Shed shoppers can rest assured that sheds from Allied Sheds come with a minimum warranty of 15 years.

But did you know that on top of this warranty, you also receive protection from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC)?

There are a number of products and services which receive automatic consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), regardless of the warranty you possess. However, it is still important to understand how these warranties apply to you when buying a shed.

What is a warranty?

When you make a purchase, the person or business who sold the product to you has the option to provide you with a voluntary promise on the product.

It’s good to know that once you buy the product or service, the promise becomes a right and if need be, it can be enforced under the ACL.

A warranty against defects provides you as the consumer with the confidence that if your goods (or even parts of them) are defective in some way, the business will repair or replace them (or part of them), resupply the goods or fix the problem. If this can’t be achieved, the business commits to provide compensation to the consumer.

What’s the difference between a warranty and automatic consumer guarantees?

Warranties are separate from your automatic consumer guarantees

Under the law, businesses must guarantee products and services they sell, hire or lease for anything under $40,000 or more than $40,000 that are normally purchased for personal or household use.

These automatic consumer guarantees are provided to the consumer by the business – and it’s in addition to any other warranties that are provided to you voluntarily. Keep in mind that these guarantees are only applicable for a reasonable amount of time after your purchase, however in some cases they might even stretch longer than the expiration of a warranty.
