Is it easy to install your own shed?

How easy is it to install a Steel Shed? Our experts will inform you and take you through the process step-by-step.

‘How easy is it to install a steel shed?’

If we had a dollar for every time we were asked this question, it would quite literally prove to be the million dollar question!

Allied Sheds know a thing or two about how to create a practical and perfect shed for your work or farm. Let’s deconstruct this question for you.

With more than 35 years’ experience in fabricating structural steel sheds, we see a large number of our customers opt to purchase our kit sheds and erect them as owner builders.

But is this choice the easy option and are our customers happy with their choice post-build?

While we’re not in the business of pulling wool over your eyes and leading you to believe erecting your own structure is simple, we’ll gladly break down the process for you so you know what to expect before you select the Allied Shed which suits your needs.

What are the benefits of installing your own shed and what does the process realistically look like?

Make no mistake - you won’t be taking any shortcuts by installing the shed yourself.

Setting up a steel shed structure takes plenty of time, patience, effort and a thorough commitment to following the provided instructions to detail.

If the above doesn’t sound like skills which come naturally to you – perhaps you should reconsider giving D.I.Y a try.

Not only will you want to be under no illusion on the organisational skills required to erect a steel shed kit, if you’re thinking of installing a shed yourself you’ll need to ensure that you have access to the appropriate tools and equipment to complete the assembly safely and efficiently.

Sound like a big process? While you’ll need to assess your own skills and schedule, setting up your own steel shed kit is achievable - and can be an on-going source of satisfaction for owner builders every time they use their new facility.

A helpful factor to keep in mind is that Allied Sheds are prefabricated in our state-of-the-art facility; meaning if you do chose to erect the shed yourself, bolting brackets and angles together will be hassle-free.

I think I want to install my shed myself. Where to from here?

As an owner builder the most important thing to do before you purchase one of our steel kit sheds is to contact your local council to check what building permits and licences you require before you commence building.

We cannot stress enough how vital this step in the process is to do before you start building. We explore this process – and the potential consequences if you don’t receive building approval – further in our planning permission blog.

While taking on the responsibility of erecting your Allied Shed isn’t for everyone, we can assure you that we have served thousands of customers over the years who have built their steel shed kit and have found the experience to be a rewarding one.
